The Hunter Valley, north of Sydney, is wine country: cellar doors around Pokolbin, among them Tyrrell’s, a family winery since 1858, and Brokenwood. Go by car, or with a driver.

Cellar doors

Tyrrell’s Wines has been a family winery in the Hunter Valley since 1858, with its cellar door at 1838 Broke Road, Pokolbin; Brokenwood’s cellar door has tasting pods, a wine museum and The Wood restaurant.

Where to eat

Many cellar doors serve lunch; book at weekends.
